My original plan was to have a "PLANS" unit, which would have handled this
function, and had asked Bob Fishman to fill the position. We started down
that path, then determined that there were not enough people to have a
formal 'Plans' unit. At that point I was also 'Plans'.

Prior to this decision the 'searchers' had already started throughout the
park. Perhaps I should have recalled all searchers to the command area and
then establish a pattern. I did not consider changing, since all were in
the field and searching.

When we moved the search to the Community Center, some of the searchers used
the Monet parking lot and others used the Michangelo parking lot. At that
time I suggested that one person coordinate how the search should be
accomplished, working from opposite sides of the center.

During the debriefing was the only time a pattern concept was mentioned.
Something in the context of we should have used it earlier. My response was
that in the future if I was involved that method (search pattern) would be
established. Further it was suggested that if someone has an idea for doing
things better, mention it as soon as possible.
