To All:
I would like to recognize the following people for their efforts to make
the October 1 Fire Station 2 Pancake Breakfast a success for SARES.

AD6RY - Scott (Equipment and Worked)
WA6OCP - Neal (Equipment and Worked)
    KD6WJV - Larry (Worked)
    KG6FDD - Ken (Worked)
K6OTT - Andreas (Literature and Worked)
    KB6TUT - Ernie (Worked)
    WA6OIW - Bob (Equipment)
KG6MOL - Bob (Equipment and Worked)

Hopefully, I did not miss anyone. (If I did please let me know [I
apologize in advance]).

We were setup at the base of the tower next to SNAP. We had two radios
operating and two antennas on top of the tower. Scott set up a long wire
and a 2m vertical for his K2. My 706 used the 20 meter hamstick and the
2m J-pole on the tower.

The 20m hamstick worked without a tuner (1.5 SWR). Surprised Ernie ;)
Andreas was able to talk to K9ES in Florida and a W0BH in Kansas on 20m.
Both of these signals were very strong. Ernie also worked them latter.

Operating CW on the K2 Scott caught the attention of a few.

For future reference, the tower needs 75 ft cables. Also, it is a long
climb/walk to the top.

We had quite a few people stop by. Several kids seemed interested. Their
parents wanted to know when/where classes for Technician (after we told
them that was the starting point) were being held. Unfortunately, we had
no immediate information on classes and so we forwarded them to HRO to
find a class (We need an answer for this question for all public events,
possibly even consider offering our own Tech Class ?) There were at
least 8 kids under 15 interested in Technician licenses. Usually, the
associated parent was also interested.
One older lady stopped by and also asked about Technician license and
training. Her father was a HAM and she thought it would be nice to be
able to talk to him on the radio.

At least 3 people expressed some interest in joining SARES. (Bob I have
specific contact information for you on one of them)

Of course the two biggest attractions were the police cruiser rides and
the fire hose demonstrations.

Lessons Learned:
  1) We need to know when/where HAM classes (especially Technician) are
     available.
  2) The tower needs 75 feet of cable.
  3) Two pop-ups for sun/weather protection would be very nice. We had
two tables and one pop-up covers one table.
  4) Wearing our SARES vests makes us look COOL !!!!
  5) It is a long walk to the top of the tower.
  6) External speakers are a plus (Let's the visitor hear our cool
     lingo )

Once again, I wish to thank everyone who showed up, donated equipment
and made this a successful event. I hope you enjoyed it as well.
