Based on a recent lunch discussion, I thought some of you might be interested in a recent letter I sent to the merky news (Phil KF6ZYT): (By the way, I have been using the free Open Office, replacing Microsoft Office with good success. It _will_ allow the manipulation of Excel spread sheets, such as the recent SARES roster). Date: Mon, 17 Oct 2005 11:31:02 -0700 (PDT) From: "P. Stewart" <pstewart99@yahoo.com> Subject: Broadband Over Power line To: Letters@mercurynews.com Dear Managing Editor, Here is clear evidence of the negative aspect of 'Broadband Over Power Line' you failed to cover in your 10 October Feature. Will you please correct your omission with a balanced article on this issue, and further point out the FCC's unwillingness to uphold their charter in policing this issue? Thanks, Phil Stewart 983 Starflower ct. Sunnyvale, Ca. 94086 408-733-8927 ARRL Calls on FCC to Shut Down Virginia BPL System NEWINGTON, CT, Oct 13, 2005--In support of Amateur Radio complaints of interference, the ARRL today formally asked the FCC to instruct the City of Manassas, Virginia, to shut down its broadband over power line (BPL) system. Communication Technologies (COMTek) operates the BPL system over the municipally owned electric power grid. The League say the facility has been the target of unresolved interference complaints dating back at least to early 2004, none of which has resulted "in any action or even interest" on the part of the FCC's Office of Engineering and Technology (OET) staff. In the meantime, the ARRL goes on to say, interference to local Amateur Radio stations continues. __________________________________ Yahoo!
