Carr, DEC/CRO, 41707, 1030 hr The exercise will start at 0900, Saturday, April 21, and last until about 1200 or 1300 hours. You will be contacted by your city EC to see if you can respond to the request for mutual aid. (If your city is not participating in this event, please contact Larry Carr, 650-269-9638 for special instructions about how you can still be part of the exercise). If you are able to respond to this request from your EC, your EC will tell you to check in on the Santa Clara County Resource net, where you will be given instructions regarding the event. BEFORE YOU LEAVE YOUR POINT OF DEPARTURE, program the following frequencies into your radio: 146.115(+) PL 100.0 (AA6BT, The SCCo Resource Net frequency) 145.27(-) PL 100.0 (W6ASH, the North County Resource Net frequency, which may be linked to AA6BT for the event). If you have 440 UHF radio capability, you should also program 444.625(+) PL 110.9 (N6NAC, the South Count connection to the Resource Net; this frequency will be linked to AA6BT for the duration of the exercise) Contact the Resource Net Control, stating your call sign. When asked, advise the net control that you are responding to the call for mutual aid, and follow the instructions given to you at that time. You will be given a contact frequency for the staging area at the city that has asked for aid; BE SURE TO PROGRAM THIS FREQUENCY INTO YOUR RADIO BEFORE YOU START TRAVEL. Note: When you have been given an assignment, briefly return to your city net and advise your EC that you have been given an assignment, and that you will be responding to the request for mutual aid. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DEPARTURE POINT UNTIL YOU HAVE BEEN GIVEN AN ASSIGNMENT BY THE RESOURCE NET CONTROL. BE SURE TO WRITE DOWN THE ASSIGNMENT, AND THE RACES ACTIVATION NUMBER FOR THE EVENT. While traveling, be sure to obey ALL travel regulations! We want you to arrive safely at the assignment, so do NOT hurry! If you cannot find the staging location, stop at the side of the road, and THEN ask for more detailed directions - do NOT try to drive and read a map at the same time! While traveling to and from the event, check in with the Resource Net Control every fifteen minutes during your travel. When you have arrived at the staging location, check in with the requesting city Staging Net Control, announcing your presence. Once you have made this formal contact, return briefly to the Resource Net to state that you are at the staging location, have made contact with the city RACES representative, and are leaving the Resource Net. At the city check-in location, be sure to enter your name, call sign, and city or agency that released you for this assignment (NOTE: This is NOT necessarily your city of residence - it is the city that hosts your ARES/RACES organization.) Once you have completed your assignment, BE SURE TO SIGN OUT on the check-in sheet that you used when you signed in! THIS IS IMPORTANT - DO NOT FORGET TO SIGN OUT when leaving the assignment location! Before you start your travel home, check in on the Santa Clara County Resource Net stating that you have completed your assignment and are returning to your point of departure. Contact the net control every fifteen minutes during your return to your original point of departure. If you decide to divert from your shortest travel route home, or plan to do any personal business, notify net control that you wish to leave the net. Once you have approval from net control, you will be finished with your assignment and may continue with your personal business. If you are in fact returning to your original point of departure, advise net control when you have reached your destination. Any questions?
