Re: [SARES] Tuesday Night Roll-Call Net

I don't like the idea of assigned nets -- we are volunteers who should be
willing to "step up" to maintain the organization. If we don't do it
voluntarily, then one has to question how we will respond in a true "time of
need".

For me, the net is at an awkward time -- I take time from our family dinner
to check in, but we need to reschedule the dinner (or I depart from it) at
the times that I take the net.

That said, if we have to go to an assigned rotation, let me suggest a
modified algorithm:

On even-numbered months (February, April, June, you-get-the-idea) assign
to AECs in rotation.
On odd-numbered months (January, March, May, you-get-the-idea) assign to
non-AEC members of SARES.
(or do a weekly rotation based on "week number" which is easier on the
individual but much harder to track and more likely to be forgotten)

This has the dual benefits of putting more load on the AECs (which is
reasonable given their purported increased responsibility) as well as
developing NC skills among the non-AECs.
I would not put the EC into the rotation at all -- he/she has the ultimate
responsibility to find a method of hosting the net when things break down.

So far, Sunnyvale has been fantastic (look at our check-in rate) as an
all-volunteer organization with very little coercion and arm-twisting. If
we can maintain this, we are a stronger organization. But to keep this up,
we gotta perform.

My $0.02 worth. I'll now climb off of the soapbox.
