We are looking for the names / call signs of those members that want
to come out and play with packet, from home, tomorrow afternoon, between
2 & 4 PM. You are encouraged to dust off your packet stations, set them
for 144.350 (S) to operate keyboard-to-keyboard and to the EOC. We are
interested in how many packet operators we have in Sunnyvale and get our
fingers functioning with the program. If you want to play with us
please let us know by replying to this e-mail prior to noon on Saturday.

Since we will only be using a single TNC-radio combination at the
EOC there must be coordination between field stations & the EOC.
Therefore, when you are ready to send a message to the EOC (N6YB-1)
please contact us by voice on the K6GL (SARES) repeater. We must change
radio frequencies on the radio connected to the TNC, between the local
packet (144.350) and the county packet (144.910).

For this exercise the field units will NOT use tactical call signs,
please use your own call sign. Below is the scenario for drill as
designed by Larry Carr.

Hopefully we have covered most of the points. If you have
questions, PLEASE send them to us - we will get an answer somehow.

> As you know, the next quarterly county-wide ARES/RACES drill will
> occur next Saturday, July 21, from 2-4 pm. The scenario for this drill
> will be a SNOWSTORM. Yes, I KNOW we do not have snow in July in
> California, but that is exactly the point - no one listening to our
> drill will be led to believe a real event is occurring! Since this is
> a bad fire season, the real focus of the drill will be a wild fire on
> a windy day somewhere within the boundaries of each city that is
> participating in the drill.
>
> So, start worrying about a "snowstorm" in your neighborhood, and
> consider what radio services you can offer to your city, and what
> messages you might be requested to send. Typical messages from your
> city to Santa Clara County OES might include
>
> "We are experiencing blizzard conditions at the intersection of __ and
> __ streets - we need 100 snow goggles for our responders"
>
> "Snow had drifted across ___ Expressway - please send 3-Type 1 and
> 4-Type 2 snowplows as soon as possible"
>
> "We need to evacuate a senior living center in our town due to severe
> exposure to frostbite. Send four multi-passenger snow cats to the
> following location."
>
> So, be creative - come up with some more "snow-related" situations
> that might occur in your town.
