The following is a resend of an earlier request for SARES volunteers to assist Santa Clara ARES / RACES. At this point in time 4 SARES members have volunteered to assist and more would be nice to have for this experience gaining event. If others have volunteered and forgot to let me know, please drop me a note. If you have not volunteered, please give it consideration, if enough assist it could only be a 4 hour commitment of your time. This is an excellent way to me other hams, and get to know our neighbors in a NO STRESS event. I thank you for taking time to consider assisting in this event. Bob Gundrum ~W6MOL~ Emergency Coordinator Santa Clara ARES / RACES has requested our assistance during the Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival on Saturday, Sept. 15 & 16. They are asking for a minimum of 15 SARES members. The duties could be as a radio operator in a information booth (3), assisting in the ARES / RACES booth (net control station), lost child area, and as a rover. The hours would be in three 4 hour shifts, starting at 7:00 AM and ending at 7:00 PM. This event is much like assisting the Los Altos Festival of Lights parade and is an excellent experience gaining event with very low stress. I have had three members express interest from my "heads-up" e-mail, and am forwarding that info to the Santa Clara A/R lead - Terry Hoffman. Any SARES members volunteering to assist should contact Terry Hoffman directly for sign-up and shift selection / assignments at (cell) 750-6640 or via e-mail - *hickengr@INTERNET. sonic.net* . All I ask is that you also advise me of your assisting. Sunnyvale will NOT be providing DSW coverage for this event. That being said, I request that members assisting to wear our current SARES vest. At this time I have access to 4 vests (loaned by other members) and will be the contact for vests, only. Shown below is the original e-mail I sent about this event. THIS IS NOT AN ACTIVATION!!!!!! Santa Clara ARES / RACES is trying to get up and running again and I have offered the assistance of SARES. Tom Root is working closely with them at this time, BUT there is an event were we can have some fun and use our radios in a laid back mode. This would be at the Santa Clara Art & Wine Festival being held in their Central Park (Homestead & Kiely area) on the weekend of Sept. 15 & 16. At this time all I have had is a "heads-up", that we might be asked to help. If we are helping it would be in a SANTA CLARA ARES /RACES booth that will have as a NC station, and talking to the public (Santa Clara would need a member in this booth at all times). There will also be four festival info booths and a lost child area, which will have ham radio operators, as well as roving radio operators. The shifts would be a slots of a couple of hours or so in a booth then one could just roam around. SARES members would wear our current vests for ID. If you would be interested in assisting, please reply to this e-mail. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SARES members mailing list: <sares-list@INTERNET. sunnyvaleares.org> For help with (un)subscription send e-mail to <majordomo@INTERNET. athm.net>Received on Sat Sep 01 2007 - 04:40:54 GMT
