All, PLEASE mark your calendar for an upcoming 3 hour training session that is a FEMA requirement for volunteers who normally assist in times of emergency *(ICS 100 & 200, NIMS 700 and SEMS). */A little background - the City of Sunnyvale can request reimbursement of funds expended during disaster recovery, this could include hours of properly "qualified" volunteers. Part of the requirement for "qualified" volunteers is the completion of the above mentioned subjects. Here is the kicker, each of the above would take one to three days to complete, if you took the full training for each. FEMA has authorized a basic familiarization for the above and THIS is what is being covered./ Santa Clara County OES has an employee who is qualified to provide this "familiarization" course, which is completed in only 3 hours. Therefore, I strongly encourage all members to attend this 3 hour session. The class is being offered on Saturday, Oct. 6 from 0900 hrs until 1200 noon at the Sheriff's office auditorium at 55 W. Younger @ First St., in San Jose. A certificate of completion will be received. Preregistration is not required but is encouraged, the link is: http://www.scc-ares-races.org/MACDrill/signup.html This is a way that SARES members can actually make a double donation for volunteer hours to the City of Sunnyvale during any event that qualifies for a FEMA reimbursement. I have taken the full blown ICS classes during my employment, but will be attending this session, hope to see you there.
