For those of you who will be doing the calling, please make sure your phone
number is unblocked for caller ID. If you have blocking turned on by
default with PacBell/AT&T, that means dialing *82 before each number to
unblock it. I have a practice of not answering blocked calls or calls
from toll free numbers because they are almost always a Spanish language
telemarketer. During the last call up for a missing person, my cell
number registered a blocked incoming call.

Another thing to remember is to always identify yourself as "a ham radio
operator with SARES" before asking for a person by name. Telemarketers
always ask for a person before identifying themselves.

And if you don't say something within 3 seconds of me saying "hello", I'll
assume the call is from a telemarketing computer dialer and hang up.

Sorry if these measures seem extreme, but it helps keep me sane. And yes,
both my home and cell numbers are on the national "do not call" list. That
stopped about 75% of the junk calls originating in the USA, but many
marketeers ignore it.
