  Dave makes some good points, and I can't help but conclude that the logical response would be a fill-in-the-blanks script for those of us who make phone tree calls.  There could be one message format if we make direct contact and another format if we choose to to leave a message.

Sorry if these measures seem extreme, but it helps keep me sane. And yes, 
both my home and cell numbers are on the national "do not call" list. That 
stopped about 75% of the junk calls originating in the USA, but many 
marketeers ignore it.
