We feel that since October was a record month for SARES you should be updated on what happened. #1 - SPECS Net - SARES had a total of 138 check-ins for the month, this does not count the EC/AEC check-in in the main net. #2 - SVECS Net - SARES had a total of 83 check-ins for the month. #3 - SARES was activated twice for Endangered Missing Persons (EMP) during the month, these were RACES events. A - /SARES-07-002/ - Thursday, October 18 @ 5:15 p.m. we were requested for a missing 8 yr old boy, overdue home from school. (20 members) B - /SARES-07-003/ - Tuesday, October 30 @ 11:15 a.m. we were requested for a missing 86 yr old man with Alzheimer's problems (14 members) In both of the above we did notifications and were en-route to the ICP when we were advise the EMP had been contacted and we could stand-down. #4 - /SARES-07-004/ - 5.6 Earthquake, Tuesday, October 30 @ 8:04 p.m. We operated an Damage Assessment Net for 1 hour after the shaking stopped, 22 members came on the net to provide reports to net control, fortunately there were no reports of damage or injuries. What we did find out was what we have said all along ~ /DO NOT count on phones after an earthquake ~./ There were minor interruptions in wire based phones, but complete failure, of varying degrees with the cellular systems. This was an ARES activation. During my time as an Incident Dispatcher for the Palo Alto Fire Dept, when ever I was activated for an emergency incident, I was required to provide the IC with an After Action Report (AAR). We have continued this in our activities with SARES, it provide SV OES & SVDPS with information they could use AND keeps us in mind in event there is an incident where SARES could help. We are attaching copies of these reports to OES / IC for your information. If you have any questions or comments - please feel free to contact me. If you were involved on any of the above, AARs, and not shown on the ICS-214, please let me know for inclusion.
