Younger Ave, San Jose, CA 0900-1200, Saturday, March 1, 2008 Santa Clara County has been fortunate in that there has not been a major crisis in our area for many years. However, as a result, amateur radio communicators have not had a chance to perform net control tasks under real emergency conditions. This has re-emphasized the need for hands-on training for our Mutual Aid Communicators (MACs), under conditions which are as close to real emergency situations as possible. Therefore, a Net Control Procedure class has been created as part of the Santa Clara County ARES/RACES Advanced Emergency Communications training program. This class is a two-part class. Part 1 will be on March 1, 2008. We are still working on the date for Part 2. Part 1 is required to participate in Part 2. Part 1 --------- Part 1 will focus on establishing the baseline procedures and proficiencies of being net control for a high-traffic net. It will include topics such as: types of nets used in SCC operations; principles of emergency communications; basic net control operation; what and how to log; passing official traffic using the message form; working with a scribe; tracking resources; using T-cards; radio operations; tactics for dealing with high-traffic nets; tracking and prioritizing stations. While some of this information may seem remedial for those that have handled busy nets before, it is important to establish consistency in operation throughout the county as well as establishing a baseline to build upon for more advanced operating situations. Further, the more experienced members may help by sharing their knowledge and experience, as well as mentor those with less experience. A significant portion of the class will be "hands on". We will break into groups, with members of the group scattered around (optionally going out to vehicles) with traffic to send to their group's net control. The net control duties will rotate through each member of the group. Due to the hands-on portion of the class, all participants will need to have a radio they can use during the class - either an HT or a mobile radio. Part 2 Part 2 will build on Part 1 and add in the complexity of dealing with radio operators who are untrained or poorly trained in emergency communications; operators who are highly stressed; operating under stressful conditions; other challenges that can occur in an emergency. Our intent is to have a 911 dispatch trainer assist in the training for Part 2. This class is open to any ham who is interested in emergency communications. It is expected that all MACs and those who would like to become MACS will attend this class. -Dave N6DWC _______________________________________________ Scc-ec mailing list Scc-ec@INTERNET. svpal.org http://mailman.svpal.org/mailman/listinfo/scc-ec +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ SARES members mailing list: <sares-list@INTERNET. sunnyvaleares.org> For help with (un)subscription send e-mail to <majordomo@INTERNET. athm.net>Received on Tue Feb 19 2008 - 03:07:15 GMT
