Attached is the latest information from the city public information office. Basically "we have good news & we have bad news". The overpass is open, the overpass will be closed in the near future to replace 4 of the girders.

As you may be aware, Caltrans reopened Mathilda Avenue over U.S. 101 last night. There is a meeting at the Caltrans district headquarters in Oakland today at which time a plan for repairs will be formulated. The damage to the bridge from the accident is severe: four of the beams that support the roadway will have to be replaced.

What this means is that there will be another closure of the bridge when the repair work begins. We don;t have details yet, such as when it will occur, whether the entire bridge needs to be shut down, etc. But that's what the meeting is about, and DPW Director Marvin Rose will be at the meeting representing the City's interests.

Once we know how Caltrans is going to proceed with the repairs, we'll pass the information on to staff.
