As presented in the recent Quarterly Training Meeting, to proactively prepare for inundation from 2m D-Star repeater interference, we will begin to include 440 MHz simplex into our net control mix to be used as an alternative.

To allow some time to program radios (and where necessary acquire a 440 MHZ capability),  440 MHz check-ins will not start until next month (July 2011). During June we will follow the current pattern of simplex check-ins starting at 19:45 hours local time and main repeater check-in after we return form the SPECS net (approximately 20:12):
even dates TAC-4 147.495 MHz (SARES chan-4)*
odd dates  TAC-3 147.405 MHz (SARES chan-3)*

Starting with July (4th) the following check-in rotation schedule will be followed- also starting at 19:45 hours local time and main repeater check-in after we return form the SPECS net (approximately 20:12):
1st. Monday TAC-3, 147.405 MHz simplex (SARES chan-3)*
2nd Monday TAC-6 446.000 Mhz simplex   (SARES chan-6)*
3rd Monday  TAC-4 147.495 MHz simplex  (SARES chan-4)*
4th Monday  TAC-7 446.500 Mhz simplex   (SARES chan-7)*
5th Monday KSNY repeater 443.275+ 107.2 HZ PL (SARES chan-8)
Note- all chan designators shown follow the updated SARES Channelized Frequency List version 7-2 (attached).

If you currently don't have 440 MHz capability and are contemplating buying another HT, a low cost alternative I have been experimenting with is the Chinese made Wouxun model KG-UVD1P (which needs a longer accessory antenna to be effective on 440 MHz).  Sold at:
o HRO for $120(+ tax)
o www.maintradingcompany  $130 including programing cable, software and free shipping
o http://www.cheapham.com/brands/Wouxun.html%c2%a0 $100 with no extras plus shipping.

The Wouxun longer antenna is available from the above maintradingcompany
for $20, or you can use an SMA barrel and an existing longer SMA
connected antenna.

Note- I have the programming cable and programming software which can be used to program these radios to the SARES V7-2 channelized list.

Cheers, Phil K6PHL
